Intro
Breeding is a feature which enables the player to reproduce their dragons, while generating different varieties of dragons. This allows players to acquire dragons without resorting to buying eggs with gems. Other purposes of breeding are:- Complete collections in The Book of Dragons.
- Acquire better dragon for Combat & Earning.
- Generate income by selling hatched dragons.
Breeding Concepts
2) Dragons are hermaphrodites (both male nor female). Therefore any dragon can breed with any other dragon, provided the following limits:
- Dragons must be level 4 or above to breed.
- Dragons which are busy in training or breeding elsewhere cannot be used for breeding until they are available again.
- Basic elemental dragons cannot breed with basic elemental dragons of the opposite element.
4) The breeding time of any given combination of Dragons is equal to the longer hatch time of the two dragons used. (See Eggs for hatch times.)
Breeding Buildings

Rare boost
The breeding/rare boost is a 5 gem boost used to increase the rarity side of your combinations.You can find it in the Breeding Mountain.Breeding Guide
Basic elemental dragons have only one element, and can be bought for gold
at the store. Breeding two dragons of the same element will always
produce an elemental dragon of that same element. On the other hand,
when two different elemental dragons are bred together, the resulting
egg almost hatches into a hybrid everytime.

Weakness effect breeding
- Always see the pure weakness of a dragon.
- Remember the mixture of the dragon that you hatched. When the pure's weakness is searched,The pure's weakness put at the Dragon 1 and the next mixture.
- The Rare Hybrids,Legendary and Pure are doesn't exist at the techniques.
Breeding chart: Basic, Hybrid and Rare Dragons
Basic dragons are found from top left to bottom right. Rare Dragons are found from bottom left to top right: They cannot be combined directly from their base elements. Two basic dragons of the opposite elements cannot be bred, and therefore, a presence of at least one hybrid dragon with the opposite elements of the basic dragon OR two hybrid dragons with opposite elements are be needed.Legend :
Normal Letters - Hybrids
Italic Letters - Basic
Bold Italic Letters - Pure Dragons
Bold Underlined Letters - Legendary
Bold Letters - Rare Hybrid
Understanding this chart will make breeding a Rare Dragon much easier as all possibilities are visible, Examples:
- An Armadillo (first column, last row) can be bred with any Hybrid from first column combined with any Hybrids in the last row.
- A Cool Fire (second column, seventh row) can be bred with any Hybrid of the second column combined with any Hybrid in the seventh row. However, your chances may depend on the combination chosen.

The breeding time was according to the longer hatching time among the 2 dragons you choose for breeding(See Eggs for hatch times.)(B = Basic, H = Hybrid, R = Rare, L = Legendary, SR = Special Release):

Breeding Results
- Fire Dragon + Earth Dragon = Flaming Rock Dragon or Vulcano Dragon
- Fire Dragon + Water Dragon = Cloud Dragon or Blizzard Dragon
- Fire Dragon + Plant Dragon = Firebird Dragon or Spicy Dragon
- Fire Dragon + Electric Dragon = Laser Dragon or Hot Metal Dragon
- Fire Hybrid + Ice Hybrid = Cool Fire Dragon or Soccer Dragon
- Fire Dragon + Metal Dragon = Medieval Dragon or Steampunk Dragon
- Fire Dragon + Dark Dragon = Vampire Dragon or Dark Fire Dragon
Breeding Rare Hybrids
There are about as many potential combinations to Breed the Rare Hybrids as you can think of, but we will just briefly go over some of the simple ones. These are NOT the only possibilities--just a few that you have access to earlier in the game.
An Gummy Dragon exist out of the elements Plant and Electric. So in order to breed one you will have to combine those two elements. Note that basic element dragon can't be breed together.

Trivia
- Approximately 6:30, September 23, 2012 in Tuesday, an official update in Dragon City's Facebook page showed that Rarity Boost raises the chances of getting a Rare, Legendary or Pure Dragon is increased by 50%.
- The breeding times have been changed, before the breeding time got calculated by counting the parents breeding time together. Now the breeding time will be similar as the hatch time.
- Since August 2012, there is a significant possibility of acquiring a Pure type from two legendary dragons.
